Eventually, the Eucatur bus company decided that the damage the road caused their vehicles was such that it was simply not worth running along the route anymore.

Subsequently, the road was left to rot and the forest grew back all around it. Its very dilapidated status is what makes the plan to repave it into a shimmering bitumen river so controversial.

But even in its current state, what remains of the road is not completely free of traffic. Indeed, some see its very "impassible" status as a challenge.

Amongst them are the Jeep Club of Porto Velho.

Jeep clubs are very popular in Brazil. We saw one as we changed planes in Brasilia; eight or nine men of a certain age, gathered in a crowded coffee lounge, laughing together in identical T-shirts and shorts.

In other countries, this type of person would perhaps go hunting, or on a particularly nasty ramble. Here, they get into 4×4 vehicles - Jeep, or "jipe", being the Portuguese generic term - and challenge themselves to drive through everything this country's wild terrain can throw at them.

They see themselves as the last adventurers.

And as our plane climbed into the air over the deep Amazon on the final leg of the flight, it was easy to see the adventure, laid out beneath us: undergrowth like a rampant wig, mud deep enough to drown a hippo - although admittedly, one that had got very lost.

Excitement junkies they may be, but reckless they are not. Luiz Cleyton, one of the founders of the Jeep Club of Porto Velho and our driver for this journey, is a researcher on the rainforest for the university here.

"We have a passion for studying the Amazon," he says.

"Every opportunity to travel around the BR-319 is interesting. I think we will have a very good trip, and we will make the most out of what the people can teach us."

We hope so too. Sunday we make our first excursion into the rainforest, before leaving Porto Velho properly on Monday. It will be a chance for us to experience some of that adventure for ourselves - and to share it with you.

One of the most overlooked aspects of a wedding cake choice is the cake stand that it will be perched on when sitting on the table at your reception.   Many cakes are constructed to use elaborate cake stands that compliment the whole cake design while others are basic and fit neatly on a simple serving platter or plate.  Regardless of your choice, be sure that it compliments your cake and doesn’t detract from it or make the cutting ritual too uncomfortable.

Couples who love style and a big show will surely have wedding cakes created to take over the entire table and draw a great deal of attention to them.   These elaborate cake creations often use fancy multi-tiered cake stands that mirror the cake’s decor in color and design.  There are some cake designs that use multiple platforms while a few even utilize a nice fountain or similar extravagance to improve the overall presentation.  While these displays can be hugely impressive, they are usually costly and cumbersome.

A great many modern wedding cakes use far simpler presentation methods and the cake stands they employ are usually as simple and as a basic as a serving platter or cake plate.   This option may seem  boring in comparison to the multi-tiered village that some more elaborate cakes tend to resemble, but it is often a good thing when a cake stand refrains from detraction from the well-designed wedding cake itself.  If your cake itself is pretty and tastefully decorated, sometimes a simpler cake stand is appropriate.

If your cake has many tiers, you’ll likely want cake stands that go in between the layers.  These can range from basic plastic prop-up sticks to much more involved stands with carved legs and designs on the surface.

What you choose to display and use to prop up the wedding cake is a personal choice in the wedding planning so take your time to choose how much the presentation will center on the stand itself.  Maybe you leave it up to the bakery to decide but either way, there are numerous ways a wedding cake stand can affect the presentation and reception of wedding cakes.

Party time for Annie + Patrick and Callie + Dylan!  This reception was one to be remembered.  A Seaside lawn held the tent for the party with dinner and dancing.  The dinner was catered by Criollas and the wedding cakes were crafted by Rhonda Joodi of Confections on the Coast.  Each couple chose a different design for their wedding cake and a cake topper displaying thier new last names.  This wedding was fantastically planned by Carolina Smith.  The amazing photography was by Kyle Barnes. Kyle emailed me about a week after this wedding took place, telling me all about a double wedding that included second shooter (and one of our fav Mammoth Men) Jory Cordy.  Of course, I said “WOW” and “please send it our way!”  Huge thanks to Kyle.  It has been a joy to share this wedding with our readers.  Check out Kyle's blog posts here:  Callie + Dylan and Annie + PatrickHappy Friday y'all!

Favorite design element of your big day: Annie: I loved the setup of the reception. It was absolutely beautiful. Callie: I don’t think we could pick just one. Everything was just how we imagined it would be; the flowers, cake, tables, tents, lighting, all of it was perfect!
Describe your wedding cake: Annie: My wedding cake was so fun! It was four layers with a strawberry layer, chocolate pistachio layer, French vanilla and the top was another strawberry layer. The colors were Tiffany Blue, black and white. The layers were both square and circles. It looked like wrapped presents and had a crystal T on the top for Tam.
Callie: The cake was wonderful. We chose a simple but elegant white four-tiered round cake with embellished pearls. It had a beautiful white bow around the middle and our initial C for the topper. We chose flavors that would fit a hot summer wedding: lemon poppy seed, strawberry, and classic vanilla.
Our favorite detail of the wedding was: Annie: The amazing food from Criolla’s! The one thing we made sure to do was sit down and eat our food! Criolla’s has always been a favorite restaurant of ours near Seaside. My parents have been celebrating their anniversary there for years.
Callie: Our favorite detail of the wedding was having pictures of my mom and dad (Grant and Cathie Wilson), and my Aunt Sherry and Uncle Kevin’s double wedding placed on the tables at the reception. I think everyone really enjoyed seeing the first double wedding in the family! It meant a lot to us to include these at our wedding. We also had Dylan’s two sisters, Rachel and Chelsey Cope, sing and play the guitar during the ceremony. This was such a special moment to have them a part of our wedding. What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome while planning your wedding? It was a challenge to plan a wedding involving two couples. Since it was a double wedding, there was another couple involved and that meant compromising and always consulting the others in the decision-making process. Both couples are pretty laid back, and luckily, my sister is the go with the flow type person so this made planning a double wedding a little bit easier.
What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome while planning your wedding? Annie: Staying within our budget…oops!
What was your most memorable moment about your wedding day? Annie: My dad gave the most amazing, heartfelt speech I have ever heard. I don’t think there was a dry eye at the reception. He is an incredible man.
Funniest moment? Callie: I would have to say seeing my new husband and father-in-law have a dance-off at the reception. Now I see where Dylan gets his moves!
Three adjectives that describe the day are: Annie: Magical, unforgettable, perfect. Callie: Beautiful, memorable, and breathtaking.
What advice would you give to someone planning their wedding? Annie: The wedding is about you two and no one else. Make sure you are happy and don’t worry about the small stuff. Also, take time to look around at the ceremony and reception. It goes by so fast, so go off for a minute by yourself where you can see it all and soak it all in. Callie: I would have to say not to stress about the small stuff. Try to remember the important part is not everything you are planning, but that you are about to marry the love of your life and begin a whole new life together.
Best advice or most memorable comment someone made to you during the wedding celebration. Annie: My uncle Kevin’s advice at the rehearsal dinner: “Boys, no matter what happens, there are two words that you need to remember throughout your marriage that are very important…. Yes, dear.” Callie: The best advice was received was from my uncle Kevin Dodd. He told the men that they only needed to remember two words; yes dear! What perfect advice, and I must say Dylan listened!
What's next for you as a couple? What are you looking forward to in the future? Annie: We are excited to just live together in Dallas in our home and experience all the adventures that life brings us. God has blessed us with so much, we can’t wait to one day be able to give back to others. Callie: Dylan and I can’t wait to start a family together, but we are enjoying our time as a young married couple for now. I love my job teaching Kindergarten and couldn’t imagine doing anything else. Dylan has one more year to graduate with his Masters in Accounting. He hopes to take the CPA exam and go into public accounting.

More Mammoth up next y'all!

Make Money With Google

Make Money Posting Links

Google said this week it might buy a big company “every year or two,” targeting “some accelerant that it would provide for revenue, some major, major user base that we did not currently have access to.” What’s surprising isn’t that Google is thinking this way, but that it’s admitting it so publicly. In the sometimes feverish world of M&A (and right now is one of those times), those are rousing words.

Schmidt surely knows this from his years as an executive, but if Google is really buying, it might make sense to pretend it’s not. In the Internet sector, just hinting such a thing when you have $22 billion in your back pocket (while generating nearly $3 billion from operations last quarter) can spur rumors, and rumors can drive up company valuations. There are already rumors that Google’s going on a big buying binge, setting its sights on the likes of Akamai (Adam Kramer shot that one down already).

So while it’s tempting to speculate on what Google should buy, let’s look instead at what Google could buy, but shouldn’t. I’ve argued before that, given the history of M&A in the web sector, a surge of new deals could end up like a 2 a.m. barroom — a place where thoughtless but impulsive decisions can lead to regrets. So here are four deals that might seem tempting, but would be best to forgo.

Hulu

Why it could happen: YouTube hasn’t turned a profit. Hulu has. Why? We’ll watch a commercial per break (or two, as seems increasingly common) for Jon Stewart or Tina Fey, but not for the Drunk Kardashians or TV for Chickens. Networks are starting to press harder on Hulu, limiting its offerings. Hulu could help kick YouTube down its path to profitability. Hulu could also make Google even more dominant presence in online video than it is now.

Why it shouldn’t: Hulu could make Google an even more dominant presence in online video than it is now. No one — whether studios or viewers — is crying out for Google to be more dominant. Also, I find Hulu’s interface to be superior. YouTube’s is still too devoted to its original design, as if its users would freak out if a new interface from scratch brought a better viewing experience. Also, as Om has argued, Yahoo is a better fit for Hulu. Besides, someone has to compete with Google in video.

eBay

Why it could happen: eBay’s marketplace business doesn’t really fit into Google’s business plan, although if things keep turning around, it could contribute to revenue growth. Checkout has never taken off, but PayPal could strengthen Google’s e-payments options while offering PayPal access to new shoppers and retailers. Skype could just offer an end run around the obstacles that AT&T and Apple are tossing in front of Google Voice. And Google’s legal clout might even help Skype in its battle with the VoIP services’s founders.

Why it shouldn’t: Mixing a company with a few silos of independent units (eBay) with another company with such a broad vision, one that it’s sprawling in all kinds of areas (Google), would create a nightmare of integration. The 77 percent rise in eBay’s shares so far this year, which gave it a $32 billion valuation as of Friday, also makes it less than a bargain. Google would need to pay largely with its stock, and such a big deal would be dilutive to investors (including Google employees), especially if other big deals are on the table.

Twitter or Facebook

Why it could happen: Early reviewers of Google Wave are largely impressed by the technology but puzzled by the strategy. Wave is more of a collaborative tool — a gun aimed at Sharepoint rather than Facebook or Twitter — which leaves Google still largely absent in the social media landscape. Facebook could add to Google’s revenue, while either company would offer the kind of “major user base” to which Schmidt referred.

Why it shouldn’t:
From a financial perspective, a Google purchase wouldn’t help Facebook or Twitter, neither of which is hurting for capital. And from a strategic perspective, it could hurt. Both are still innovating services that are in the early stages of development. The task of integrating their technologies with Google would slow that process down. That would be bad for users of Facebook and Twitter, and it would take out exactly the kind of competitors Google needs as it strives to innovate in the social media arena.

Talk about Google buying these companies isn’t new, but chatter is likely to pick up now that Schmidt has tipped Google’s M&A hand. While deals involving smaller, search-oriented companies like Russian engine Yandex and mobile-ad company Jumptap would make sense, it’s hard to imagine Google buying a bigger, established company without creating more problems than it aims to be solving.

Arnold Information Technology, http://www.arnoldit.com, has the second video of its six-video series called “How to Make Money with Google” outlining how people can tap the Google revenue-generating machine. This video, which focuses on Google and Search Engine Optimization, premiered today at http://www.arnoldit.com/video.

The purpose of this short video series–watching all six videos takes about 30 minutes–is to give clear, factual information on four specific ways an enterprising individual, a services company, or a diversified company can use the Google platform to produce revenue while meeting the needs of their customers and prospects. The videos are available for personal and educational use with no fee.

The newest video highlights how Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, consulting can become a source of income. SEO focuses on how a web site can be created and coded to increase its visibility in any browser searches, including Google PageRank. There are sections in the video on how to learn SEO, how to leverage it, and how to make it work for you and your customers.

“Google is an important company, and its technology opens doors to a number of legitimate money-making opportunities,” Stephen E. Arnold, president of Arnold Information Technology, said. Arnold has published three Google monographs and these videos are based on the information compiled for The Google Legacy, Google Version 2.0, and Google: The Digital Gutenberg. The monographs are available from Infonortics Ltd., in Tetbury, Glos., at www.infonortics.com.

Other videos include an overview of money-making opportunities, including why the Google opportunity is similar to the opportunity Microsoft created with its MS DOS software in the early 1980s; using Google’s Adsense advertising module; the opportunity Google presents programmers who can create applications for the Google platforms such as Android for mobile devices; the Google partner and reseller program; and a video titled “Google Creates Opportunity,” which emphasizes the opportunity to grow with Google as the company strives for $100 billion in revenue.

“I wanted to provide some basic, factual information about what I see as the Google revenue opportunity. Information about Google is everywhere, but the upside of Google as an opportunity is not widely known,” Arnold said. “The increase in “get rich quick” with Google e-mails I was receiving convinced me that a more measured discussion of the opportunities was needed. I will make these videos available without charge in the hopes that the Google revenue opportunities get broader dissemination.”

The series will be posted at http://www.arnoldit.com/video. Videos will be released on a 10-day cycle from today to Nov. 20. ArnoldIT.com has no relationship with Google. The information presented in the video represents the views and findings of ArnoldIT.com’s analyses of Google. amit2602,

Xrumer has a learning curve,

Buying Xrumer is just the start, to use it to its potential you also need to either spend a good amount of time building Link Databases or Purchase them.

A Good database to start with will cost you anywhere from $500 upwards.

Plus you will need a dedicated server due to the resources & bandwidth Xrumer consumes.

However SharePro, offers a complete server + database + setup for about $220 a month
I would also suggest buying his tutorial video to teach you how to use Xrumer, which costs about $150.

Once you get to grips with Xrumer, there are multiple ways you can generate income, however its not just a click & make money program.
